OCC has one of the finest facilities in
Northwest North Carolina because of our wide range of golf and social activities
for the entire family. The golf course itself is highly regarded for the quality
of its greens, course conditions, and many strategic challenges. Established in
1954, our club has one of the longest standing traditions of country club golf
in the foothills.
The Pro Shop offers complete service
for all of your golfing needs by featuring a practice range, club storage,
locker rental, a myriad of instructional programs for groups and individuals,
and the very latest in golf equipment and apparel. For members with young
children, we have a very successful junior golf program that emphasizes fun and
professional instruction. If you come by our shop you will notice it is loaded
with attractive men's and women's high quality golf and sports apparel, plus we
have the latest in golf equipment to custom fit your swing. Most of our
equipment is available for demo and club fitting is our specialty. Our shop
features members pricing in order to make our retail operation competitive with
other suppliers. The professional staff at OCC is here to service all of your
golfing needs and desires. If at any time you need assistance, feel free to call
us for any information we can provide. We will be happy to arrange a game for
you in order to get you acquainted with the club and its membership.
The Course
Oakwoods Country Club is
nestled in the foothills of North Carolina among the ghosts of moonshiners and
NASCAR. The club opened in 1954 with the original 9 holes designed by Arthur
Hamm, a student and former apprentice of the great Donald Ross. Local design
legend, Ellis Maples finished the 18 hole layout with an additional 9 that
opened in 1964. The course underwent a facelift in 1971 by architect Tom Jackson
and was again restored to all its glory in 2000 and 2001 by architect Kris
Spence. Spence modernized the greens and tees giving the course its signature
fast playing surfaces.
The course is challenging with many
elevation changes throughout. Views of the surrounding Blue Ridge and Brushy
Mountains may steal your attention during the round. Although the course is
short by many of today's standards, it is truly a shot maker's golf course. Dog
legs, bunkers, and water challenge you around every turn. Hit the big drive and
leave yourself a short iron into some holes, but be careful as there is trouble
awaiting the errant shot. Once you have found the fairway, the real challenge
begins. Well guarded greens accept the well struck shots, but true to the old
fashioned design of the course, an errant approach will leave a difficult up and
down to salvage par. Greens that roll 9.5 to 10 on the Stimp Meter will
challenge even the best putters.

Booking Tee Times
Members may book a reserved tee time for themselves and their guests by calling
the pro shop at 336-838-3011. You may change the terms of a reservation (i.e.
date, time) by calling the pro shop no later than 48 hours prior to the
scheduled tee time. Please understand that failure to cancel your reservation
without proper notice denies OCC the opportunity to offer that reservation to
another member or guest. Your cooperation in this matter will make for a better
golfing experience for everyone. If you are interested in booking a group (8 or
more players) golf outing, please speak with our PGA Professional Guy Carroll to
make your plans.
It is the decision of OCC to determine
if the golf course is unfit for play due to weather. While every best effort is
made to honor all reservations as is, Oakwoods Country Club reserves the right
to amend any reservation when legitimate, unforeseen circumstances arise
including, but not limited to, inclement weather, unscheduled (required) golf
course maintenance and other unplanned events. In most cases, members and guests
will be notified in advance of any unscheduled changes.
